McGlamorous Book Reviews :: Beginning Pen and Ink

Welcome to my new category of posts – Image of Pen Ink BookMcGlamorous Book reviews! I have been wanting to share the excitement of a new read and now is my chance with my first review of a book in the sub-category of art.

I will begin by expressing much excitement over a book by Desarae Lee, Beginning Pen & InkIndeed, a dependable Walter Foster book reminds me of my first high school art classes, this time with a more mature knowledge and attention span.

It begins with the basics techniques of drawing with chapters on line and contour work, gesture drawing, and all the essentials to exercise value and tone in your drawings. It is devoted to pen and ink, yet covers the paths of pencil techniques, not to mention light, shadow, and composition.

Final chapters test your knowledge with projects to master these techniques. I love the way they are presented and the subject matter, which includes an enormous, animated octopus and a gently flowered bear. The projects include a watercolor background and additional bonus education in another medium.

Overall, it is a great beginner book. Easy to follow with good projects and fills the desire for “doodling” really well.  It is a fair warning that it does sharpen your patience skills, as the exercises seem to require a steady and calm focus, but as with all art, the time is worth the reward.

Parting the Red Sea :: Art and the Color Red

Parting the Red Sea :: Art and the Color Red

As an artist do you ever ponder working with the color red? I ask this due to past experiences with the hue. For many years this color has plagued me when I tried to assemble jewelry, draw, or craft. Paintings would not come together as if I were fighting a bull in the ring. I could feel anger and almost panic as I tried to stay calm. Beads would fall off and not string with ease. If you commissioned me to do red, I would run!

This year has been a differentImage of Cardinal Painting event, however. I ask myself what changed and why. After a sudden move from my place of residence, I have been temporarily living with the gasp-a red wall! I have to admit that it looks great in the video and can see contrasting artwork hanging on it in my mind, but I secretly worry still that it annoys people when I am in video meetings.

Maybe I have come to an agreement with red, which I am glad about. The first thing that comes is of course the parting of the red sea and what that symbolized. Divide. Forgiveness, yet strength in the power of blood. Parting to bring others to safety. It can irritate you, or not. It is used in so much fashion and apparel, representative of love or anger, as seen in the great sport of bullfighting. Lady in Red. And on and on. Image of Vintage Shirt

So that brings me to the pleasant conclusion of how I have been a friend to “Red” lately and have been successful in the assembly of many new pieces of McGlamorous jewelry. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, what better timing than so to work on producing beautiful pieces made with love.

Some new pieces include large hearts, teddy bears, white hearts, as well as hearts in other colors, kitty cats, and more. Even a sweet new unicorn graces the floor.

Image of Heart NecklaceJewelry is such a great trinket of love and that is why I enjoy making it. Each piece stands for a story that can be shared and passed along for years to come. I’m glad working in red can help bring this joy to everyone that experiences it.

All About the Share

All About the Share

Hi there, and greetings from McGlamorous. I felt an urge to share a short eye-opening post about Poshmark this week and so here it goes.

As I was in the yard working the other day, I was thinking about how to get my jewelry more noticed on the site without always re-listing it, and remembered something smart. Putting your best items at the top can assure you that your latest listings get shared after you share another seller’s profile. The items will be first when they click your profile, and most people on Posh are great about sharing back. I tend to share three items per one of mine, and this is a good system to think about using too. There are plenty of sharing games that you can participate in as well, if you feel like doing this.

You really do get back what you give on Poshmark. Beginning sellers can benefit from finding closets with a lower follower count And help the build their folllower list. Personally , I was so excited when I did this for a couple of years. I won the $100 reward from Posh shortly afterwards, and it felt like I had been rewarded by the heavens for doing a good deed. Answered prayer, because that is how I got my electric guitar!

For new users, this can be a good tip, plus hooking up all your sharing settings. Twitter is a greater place to share and be shared. They also have the options of Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and more. To go to these setting you can click on your profile logo to get to where you are going, as seen here ::
