Storyful Shirts :: The Mardi Gras T

Ahh, the T-Shirt.Image of Mardi Gras Shirt

What is it about these soft pieces of memory that you layer in a box? You just can’t break away. Should it be re-designed, made into a blanket, crafty project, on a wall? All these are great ideas that I think of when I look into my old stash of shirts dated Y2K and beyond.

While doing a photo session the other day I just threw one up under the light, when all of a sudden, a clear vision of the reason why I loved it came to me. It was decided then and there to make it a new project, so they don’t go to waste and have a chance to return their story and memory.

Image of Purple Shirt I’ll begin with the purple Mardi Gras T-Shirt from one of the best trips ever with my Mom. It was her first driving trip to Atlanta. Georgia. She was very nervous because my Dad was usually the chauffer, and she did it with grace even though it poured down rain on us most of the night! We were going to see a musical at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. My favorite venue and dream theatre. The bill was either Thoroughly Modern Milly or ironically Singing in the Rain, I don’t recall, but do remember it was of a happy tone.

The event was a blast, and it was time for the common late-night dinner after the performance. We cruised down Peachtree to find an open sign at Huey’s, at that time an eclectically decorated New Orlean’s Style Cafe. It changed owners several times throughout our years in the city, but the first times there were our favorite.

Outdoor patios are always a pleasure, especially with Louis Armstrong playing in the background. Let’s not bypass the crazy and scrumptious menu these guys served. Cakes as high as a small mountain upon entering, hot dogs served with utensils, and let’s not forget the beignets with praline sauce. Yum. We always set out to try new things but ended up with the trusty standby. Po-Boys with shrimp, crispy chicken fingers, and my first introduction to cinnamon in my coffee.

Most of all was the decor. It was so stunning to a creative person of my age. The walls had no bare spots. From masks to feathers, to photos and more, it was a candy shop to my eyes. That’s I spotted the star of my story, the lady on the purple shirt. She was bright and exotic, and a world of color and happiness to represent our memorable trip together. Most of all. she was a gift from Mom.Image of New Orleans

We Won ! ! ! :: Poshmark’s Heart and Hustle Grant

We Won ! ! ! :: Poshmark’s Heart and Hustle Grant

Yay….Yay…Yay..did I say Yay?

Gosh, I can’t express how good this feels to win my first business grant. It’s my first big reward for such a careful effort to grow MCGLAMOROUS. To begin, let me say how much I enjoy re-selling but mostly creating my ideas and art to sell.

Here’s the cool deal. Poshmark holds you up to do it. In a world gone mad, they are a gust of encouraging wind in the sails of the McGlamorous ship! We have been working since 2013, even from a sickbed, sharing, giving, researching, you name it, to get it all out. This has come at the perfect timing, and with God’s help, of course.

Each seasonal cycle within the four seasons, Poshmark gives away a Heart & Hustle grant to sellers with a certain number or more of sales between periods. I thought about this, tried it the first go-round, but did not get my link correct. Disappointed, I decided to think again about entering, tried again, and got picked! The timing was just perfect, as I knew that I would be relocating my home-based business. Extra support was a true blessing, but mostly the inspiration of getting visions and dreams out there is a free-ing, wonderful feeling. Congrats to all the winners!

So what’s next?

Well…Onward! We keep creating, keep writing, keep dreaming. We are currently preparing a newsletter you can subscribe to, and are adding all sorts of different categories to the jewelry including Tropicals, Celestial, and more.

That is the wind in the sails. I just wanted to share the good news. Please pass it on, and Thank you for your business and support.

If this post has helped you in any way, please share it with others. You can also receive a $10 discount on Poshmark when you sign up using code MCGLAMOROUS, and $5 off for signing up on Kidizen with code riy3u.

Friends of Fall :: { And Some Roger Williams }

Friends of Fall :: { And Some Roger Williams }

Each fall calls for a newer and brighter color scheme for us, this one being no exception. We don’t do drab. (Life is hard enough). It is all about cuteness and color! Hopefully this will spread as far as the Autumn Leaves in this post of friendly fall critters (and a famous songs). Halloween is just around the corner as well, and maybe it will inspire a gift for that favorite teacher or maple latte loving friend.

What makes you love fall the most? I used to not be a fan but it is growing on me a bit. I think of new coffee drinks, cozy long sleeved shirts, finger-less gloves, and fire pits. I love the glow of lanterns or warm lights in the windows and pumpkins mysteriously and quietly posing on the porch.

All of these things and more have become visions coming to life in jewelry form. Today I would like to share a few of my favorites in celebration of a cute and happy side of  F A L L.
