All About the Share

Hi there, and greetings from McGlamorous. I felt an urge to share a short eye-opening post about Poshmark this week and so here it goes.

As I was in the yard working the other day, I was thinking about how to get my jewelry more noticed on the site without always re-listing it, and remembered something smart. Putting your best items at the top can assure you that your latest listings get shared after you share another seller’s profile. The items will be first when they click your profile, and most people on Posh are great about sharing back. I tend to share three items per one of mine, and this is a good system to think about using too. There are plenty of sharing games that you can participate in as well, if you feel like doing this.

You really do get back what you give on Poshmark. Beginning sellers can benefit from finding closets with a lower follower count And help the build their folllower list. Personally , I was so excited when I did this for a couple of years. I won the $100 reward from Posh shortly afterwards, and it felt like I had been rewarded by the heavens for doing a good deed. Answered prayer, because that is how I got my electric guitar!

For new users, this can be a good tip, plus hooking up all your sharing settings. Twitter is a greater place to share and be shared. They also have the options of Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and more. To go to these setting you can click on your profile logo to get to where you are going, as seen here ::

Look for your sharing settings.

Yellow Bird

Yellow Bird

Yellow Bird
Yellow Bird Necklace by McGlamorous

It’s time for a brighter post to thaw the cold. Let’s talk about “Yellow Bird”, originally a “Choucoune”, or lyrical poem that praises the beauty of a Haitian woman with the same nickname. It became a popular merengue lente (slow merengue) in Haiti, and was played prominently during celebrations at Port-Au-Prince in 1949.

It is one of Haitian poet Oswald Durand’s’ most famous works. There is a great in depth article here that tells the story of the poem and links to the original. Michel Mauleart Morton, an America-born pianist with a Haitian father and American mother, composed music for the poem in 1893. Naturally, it combines some French and Caribbean fragments to create a tune, but the lyrics for YB have no connection with the narrative of the poem. It became a minor hit on Billboard Hot 100 for the Mills Brothers in 1959, and continues to be popularly associated with Calypso and the Caribbean. It is often performed by steel-pan bands, but some versions  such as Chris Isaacks show a Hawaiian influence.

American Lyrics ::

Yellow bird, up high in banana tree.
Yellow bird, you sit all alone like me.
Did your lady friend leave the nest again?
That is very sad, makes me feel so bad.
You can fly away, in the sky away.
You’re more lucky than me.
I also had a pretty girl, she’s not with me today.
They’re all the same those pretty girls.
Take tenderness, then they fly away.
Yellow bird, yellow bird.
Did your lady friend leave the nest again?
That is very sad, makes me feel so bad.
You can fly away, in the sky away.
You’re more lucky than me.
Wish that I were a yellow bird, I’d fly away with you.
But I am not a yellow bird, so here I sit.
Nothing I can do.
Yellow bird, yellow bird.

Yellow bird was a dream
The dream came to be
Bright and beautiful
Caged not and free
He sang on his branches
He danced in the rain
The rays of the sunshine
Caused him no pain
His song now is lovely
Hopeful and true
He speaks of the ocean
Skies of bright blue
Sunshine sweet sunshine
Please come to me
Just like my Yellow Bird
I want to be free

P.S. My Mother plays this as a Tango for ballet barre and I wrote my own poem above. Thanks for reading and please share!

The Nutcracker :: What’s Your Flavor?

The Nutcracker :: What’s Your Flavor?

Nutcracker

Pink Ballerina Earrings
Dewdrop Deux

A million or more posts on the Nutcracker every season, and this is my first ever. I am a side-lined dancer for now, so I want to get in on this season’s premier of the movie with a jewelry twist.

Which part of the well-known ballet is your favorite? What’s your flavor. Coffee? Tea? Do you prefer the spicy flavors of the Orient or the sweet aromas of the land of sugarplums and candy canes? A fountain of creativity flows from our child-like minds when dwelling on the classic. Full of excitement and imagination, it gives a dreamer a reason to lie on the floor with Waltz of the Flowers playing in the background.

This year the Nutcrackers have been plentiful in stores, even reaching the rooted country atmosphere of south Georgia gift shops and drugs stores. McGlamorous site being no exception, I am posting our part on the marketing stage.

Purple Ballerina Bracelet
Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy

The designs are inspired by soldiers, ballerinas and pearls, and glitter and dance. They include bracelets, necklaces, and earrings, and can be purchased directly from the site, or can been seen in person at 30A Ballet in Seagrove Beach, Florida. A good friend has been kind enough to display and sell them in her wonderful new studio. They make great gifts for children in the arts, first time performers of the ballet, spring recital trinkets, and even graduation gifts for dancing teenage seniors. Teachers may also enjoy the gift of dance expressed in pearl form as well.

Blue Soldier Bracelet
Blue Nutcracker Soldier Bracelet

Pieces are a mix of  Swarovski crystals, freshwater pearls, and a ballerina as a focal point, all with decorative metal clasps. Other pieces inspired by dance are also available on the site.

Take a peek this special season, and enjoy.

Thanks!
